Northlight Laser hair removal

Laser hair removal in Winter Park

Six sessions, spaced by where the hair is, with every package price printed on this page. This is the most logistical treatment at Northlight and the least emotional one, and it brings in a completely different person from the rest of the menu.

10 to 45 minutes Shave the day before 6 sessions 5 to 8 weeks apart Diode with contact cooling

Why six sessions and not one

Hair grows in cycles, and a laser can only destroy a follicle while its hair is actively attached to it. At any moment roughly a fifth of the hair in an area is in that phase. The rest is dormant and completely unaffected by the appointment you just paid for.

So the schedule is not a sales structure, it is arithmetic. Six sessions spaced across the cycle catches most follicles at the right moment: five weeks apart on the face, six to eight on the body, where hair moves more slowly.

The device, and who it is not right for

Northlight uses a diode laser with contact cooling, which is comfortable and effective on Fitzpatrick skin types one through five. The cooled sapphire tip sits on the skin, so the sensation is a cold press followed by a quick snap of heat.

For Fitzpatrick six, Camille refers out to a practice with an Nd:YAG rather than treating you on a device that is not the right one for your skin. That is a short conversation and it happens before you have paid for anything.

Grey, white, red and very fine blonde hair does not respond to any laser, because there is no pigment for the light to find. Anybody who tells you otherwise is selling you six appointments that cannot work.

Price

Per session and six session package
AreaOne sessionPackage of six
Upper lip$95$475
Chin$110$550
Underarms$135$675
Bikini line$165$825
Brazilian$240$1,200
Half legs$230$1,150
Full legs$340$1,700

The package is six sessions for the price of five. It is not prepaid and not refundable in the awkward sense, because you pay for it at the first session and any unused sessions are simply credited back if you stop.

What you have to do

Shave
The day before, close, over the whole area. The laser targets pigment in the follicle, and surface hair only burns and stings.
Do not wax or pluck
For four weeks before. Pulling the root out removes the thing the laser is aiming at, which wastes the session entirely.
Stay out of the sun
Two weeks before and two weeks after, and no self tanner. This is Florida, so it is the rule people break most.
Afterwards
Pink for a few hours, like a mild razor burn. No hot showers, no gym and no sauna that day. Hair that appears to grow in the following fortnight is being shed rather than growing.
How permanent
Permanent reduction rather than permanent removal. Expect most of it gone and an annual touch up for the rest, and expect hormones to change the arithmetic.
Photographs

There is no pair for this one, and there probably never will be.

The north window protocol is a straight on portrait at a fixed distance, and a hair result is a close crop of an underarm or a shin. There is no way to shoot that under the same protocol, so there is no honest way to put it on the results page beside the others. Rather than photograph it a different way and imply it meets the same standard, Northlight does not publish laser hair removal photographs at all.

Questions about laser hair removal

Four practical ones.

Does it hurt?

A cold press, then a quick snap of heat, repeated. Underarms and bikini are the sharpest, legs are dull and boring, and upper lip is over in about ninety seconds.

It is easier than waxing and far shorter. Nobody needs numbing cream for it, though you are welcome to use one.

Is it permanent?

Permanent reduction is the honest term. Most of the hair in a treated area does not come back, and what does come back is finer and sparser.

Hormones can wake dormant follicles years later, particularly on the face, so plan on an occasional single session rather than assuming you are finished forever.

Can I do this in summer?

Yes, if you can genuinely keep the area out of the sun for two weeks either side. In practice that means legs are easier to do between October and March and underarms are fine all year.

Camille will reschedule you rather than treat recently tanned skin, and she does that a lot in July.

What about grey or blonde hair?

It will not work, and you should not pay for it. Laser finds pigment, and hair without pigment gives it nothing to find.

If that is what you have, electrolysis is the treatment that works, and Northlight does not offer it.

I booked underarms because it was the cheapest thing I could try and I have since done bikini and half legs. Nobody upsold me once. They just told me how many sessions were left each time.

The next step

A consultation is a conversation, not a sales appointment.

Thirty minutes with Camille in the north room. She looks at your face in daylight, tells you what she would do, tells you what she would leave alone, and writes down what it costs before you decide anything.
