Sculptra does not fill anything. It asks your own skin to build collagen over several months, so the change arrives too slowly for anybody to catch the moment it happened. That is the entire appeal, and it is also the reason it is the wrong treatment for a wedding in April.
What it actually addresses
Overall thinning: a face that has lost its padding evenly rather than in one place. Temples that have hollowed, cheeks that have flattened, skin along the jaw and neck that has lost its snap, and the general quality of skin that reads as tired in photographs without any single line being responsible.
It is not for a specific fold and it is not for lips. If you can point at the thing that bothers you, filler is probably the better tool. If you cannot point at it, this is usually the one.
How it works
Sculptra is poly-L-lactic acid, the same material used in dissolvable surgical stitches, suspended in water and injected across a broad area. Your body treats the particles as something to tidy up, and the cleanup response lays down new collagen while it works. Over about eight weeks the particles are gone and the collagen stays.
That is why nothing much happens at first, and why the little bit of fullness you see on the drive home is only the water. It absorbs within two days and the face goes back to how it looked. People who were not told this in advance think it has failed.
The timeline, honestly
- Day 0
- Thirty minutes in the chair. Slight fullness from the fluid, and a few small bumps that settle.
- Day 1 to 5
- You massage the treated areas five times a day for five minutes. This part is not optional and it is the main thing that separates a good result from a lumpy one.
- Week 1
- Back to exactly how you looked. This is normal. Nothing has gone wrong.
- Month 2
- Second vial. Most people need two, some need three, and the second is usually where the plan gets adjusted.
- Month 3 to 4
- The first change other people notice, and the first change worth photographing.
- Month 6
- Settled. This is the result.
- Month 18 to 24
- It fades. A single maintenance vial usually holds it from there.
Who should not have this
Anyone who needs to look different in under three months. Sculptra cannot be hurried and it cannot be undone, which is the trade you are making for a change nobody can date. If there is an event on the calendar, Camille will steer you to filler and say why.
Price
$900 a vial. Most people need two or three across a few months, so a full course is $1,800 to $2,700, paid one vial at a time as you go.
Nothing is prepaid as a package here. If you decide after the first vial that this is not for you, you have spent $900 and you owe nothing further.
There is no pair for this one yet, and there is a specific reason.
A fair Sculptra pair needs the same window, the same distance and the same lens twelve months apart, because anything shorter shows the change mid build. The two patients who agreed to be photographed under this protocol are at month seven. Their frames go on the results page when the twelve months are up and not before, and no other treatment’s photographs will be used in the meantime.

How is this different from filler?
Filler is a gel that occupies space from the day it goes in. Sculptra is a prompt: it makes your own tissue do the work, and then it leaves.
Practically, that means filler is immediate, targeted and reversible, and Sculptra is slow, diffuse and permanent until it fades. Different tools for different questions.
When will I actually see something?
Month three for the first honest change, month six for the settled result. Anything you see in week one is water and it will be gone by the weekend.
If that timeline sounds frustrating, that is useful information: this treatment is not the right fit for you and there is no polite way to speed it up.
Can it be reversed?
No. There is no enzyme for poly-L-lactic acid the way there is for hyaluronic acid, which is precisely why it is given in small amounts across several appointments instead of all at once.
Building slowly is the safety mechanism. It is also why Camille will not do three vials in one sitting no matter how keen you are.
Is one vial worth doing?
Usually not on its own, and she will tell you that before you pay for it. One vial across a whole face is a very small amount of stimulation and most people cannot see a difference from it.
If budget is the constraint, treating a smaller area properly beats treating a whole face thinly.
